Nature Mauritanie, in partnership with the National Agency of the Great Green Wall of Mauritania, co-organized a workshop in the city of Maal. The workshop focused on presenting the results of a scientific study on the watersheds of the Maal, Djolouar, Bouli, and Chelikha areas, as well as a practical approach to managing Prosopis trees at Lake Maal.
Several government institutions and local authorities attended, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the legal advisor to the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, the acting Secretary General of the Ministry, and the Head of Missions. Also present were the Deputy Governor of the Brakna region, the District Governor of Maal, the Member of Parliament for the district, mayors of municipalities in the Brakna and Guidimagha regions, officials from the Ministry of Environment, municipal councilors, experts, and representatives of NGOs.
The approach presented aims to protect Lake Maal, restore its ecological balance, and limit the impact of invasive plant species, thereby contributing to local development and improving the livelihoods of the population.
